10 Amazing Natural Home Remedies for Grey Hair

While the silvers set in, your beauty and appearance goes down by a step, don’t you agree? Yeah, we are talking about the ageing silvers; grey hair here. 1. Indian Gooseberry

Gooseberries, otherwise called “amla” are the first go-to for treatment for grey hair in India. It is known for its nourishing properties and hair growth stimulating properties. This is how you should go about using amlas into your hair care regime:

In a pan, heat some extra virgin coconut oil and add in some chopped gooseberries to the oil. You could also stir in a tablespoon of amla powder if you are able to get your hands only on the powder. Cool down the oil and bring it to room temperature. Apply it to your scalp weekly twice and it will prevent your greying perfectly.

2. Curry leaves

Boil fresh curry leaves in a pot of pure water. Strain the curry leaves and keep aside the water to let it cool down to room temperature. Grind the strained curry leaves into a fine paste, add in a teaspoon of fenugreek powder and apply this to your hair and scalp. Leave it on for half an hour and wash it off with luke warm water and a regular shampoo.

You can either use the strained water as the final rinse for your hair wash or drink a cup of this water in the early mornings on an empty stomach. This will not only prevent the greying, but also will stimulate hair growth and give you shiny and beautiful hair.

3. Coconut oil

The best hydrating oil ever could just be coconut oil. Give yourself a warm coconut oil deep massage once every week and you will for a fact see that your hair doesn’t tend to get grey that soon. All you’ll have to do is hunt and explore an extra virgin or cold refined coconut oil that will do its job excellently well.

Use a double heating method to warm your coconut oil and use a cotton ball to evenly apply it throughout your scalp. Massage it well using your finger tips and let it on at least for 3 hours. If you can sleep with this oil on overnight and wash it the next morning, there’s nothing like it! But if you are likely to catch a cold if you do so, you can have it on your scalp for 3 hours and wash it off using a regular shampoo alone. Avoid using your conditioner while you do this treatment. Coconut oil will never let your hair turn grey!

4. Essential oils

Essentials oils such as rosemary, sage, ylang ylang, lemon oil etc. are your best friends if you never want to have grey hair. You can mix up a few drops of this oil into good carrier base oil like coconut/almond/sesame oil and massage this onto your scalp. Rub it through the mid lengths and tips of hair. Leave it on for ½ - 1 hour before you wash it off just with a regular mild shampoo and it will always care for your hair’s pigmentation!

5. Onion juice

Peel an onion, chop into pieces and grind it into a fine paste. Add very little water for this process and then using a muslin cloth or tea strainer, filter out the paste and the juice from it. All you need is the juice. You can use the paste as a plant fertilizer. Stir in a teaspoon of pure coconut or almond oil to the juice (just in case you have dry hair and scalp issues) and massage this onto your scalp. Leave it on for 45 mins, tolerate the smell of onions for this time span and then wash it off with your shampoo. Using a conditioner is optional while you do this process. Onion stimulates your hair growth and retains the pigmentation of your hair intact.

6. Bhringraj

Bhringraj is a treasure that has been saved for ages now. Use fresh leaves of Bhringraj, grind them into a paste, dry them out and add them to pot of steaming coconut oil. Let it rest so for at least 10 days and then you can filter out the oil and use it for your hair oil massage. If you are able to get only the Bhringraj powder, you can again add the powder to a pot of steaming coconut oil, pour the whole mixture into a glass jar or mason jar and keep it under sunlight for 10 days, before you can use it to massage your scalp. Bhringraj ensures to keep your hair pigmentation secured and also stimulates hair growth.

7. Black tea

Mix in black tea into a cup of water. Use this mixture as your last rinse whenever you wash your hair. Let your hair air dry. Black tea fights against hair greying and will retain your hair pigmentation.

You can also give your hair a black tea hair mask, leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with a regular shampoo and conditioner for dark hair that has no silvers at all!

8. Amaranth leaves

Amaranth, the famous spinach that’s a habitat of India is very good for your hair health. Making a paste out of fresh amaranth leaves and applying a pack of this concentrating on your scalp and hair ends will help in preventing premature greying also.

9. Henna

Henna is the natural hair color that is free of chemicals and hazardous agents. It is an herbal preparation and applying this over time will give your hair a natural burgandish-copper color. People soak henna overnight in an iron container and mix it using curd or egg whites. You can custom make your henna paste as per your wish and use it on your hair for that natural hair color. The color your get as the resultant completely depends on your original hair color.

10. Sesame oil

Sesame oil that’s made from sesame seeds works wonders on premature greying hair. Use this oil to massage your scalp and hair and leave it for an hour before you wash it. It is a common sight among the North Indians to use this oil on their hair and leave it overnight before a wash. Many of them catch a cold when they leave it on for a long time. So leaving it on for 1 hour is the most preferred waiting period. You can then follow up this routine with your normal mild shampoo and avoid conditioner for the day. Do this routine at least once a week and you will never have grey hair again!
